Hi all and welcome back to Style Medium, thank you for joining me for another week of Expression Through Style. They say imitation is the highest form of flattery, this is exactly what I wanted to do with this look. I wanted to pay homage to the designer and this brand.
If you have been following me on social media you know just how much I love the Marvel movie Black Panther and what it represents. At the first end credit scene where we see T'Challa address the UN ( see picture below) he had this silk scarf draped across his shoulder and it grabbed my attention because it was exuding with regality.
Then I saw Director, Ryan Coogler adorn the same kind of scarf and style at the world premier of Black Panther and I needed to know more about it and this is where I came across Ikiré Jones . They create beautiful tapestries on clothes that tell stories of far flung myths and undiscovered histories, whilst also celebrating the perspectives of unheralded people of colour.
They are a brand that use design as a vehicle to tell stories that Illuminate the Nuanced lives of Marginalised people without reproach or pity. Showing that elegance is not exclusive to any particular culture, hue or country. Their work serves as a reminded that the luxury of bring should not dictate one's capacity for compassion.
I love fashion as an art form, as a way of self expression and as a way to bring stories to light that have been otherwise hidden. I have an admiration for this brand I'm working to get my coins so i can make a few purchases, but till then I will imitate.
Although the scarf I am wearing in this look is not made from the finest Italian silk and it might not be covered with stories from the unknown world, I still wanted to imitate the look I was inspired by using what I already had.
This scarf is from Lush Hand Made Cosmetics Knot Wrap collection as an innovative alternative to plastic bags, and wrapping papers it can be reused in so many different ways. You can use it to wrap the products you buy from lush, use it to wrap presents as a re-useable wrapping paper.
The Purpose of this look is to show case a brand that emulates what I believe fashion and style is, which is a art form. A tool for self expression and a tool for telling stories. Simply put, Fashion and by extension style is an art form for telling stories
I hope you are inspired by this look and Ikiré Jones brands to tell your story through fashion and your personal style. Let me know in the comments what you think of this look, did i imitate it well and what do you think about the brand?
Thanks for joining me again this week, don't forget to follow me on social media (link below and above this page) and have a fantastic week expressing yourself through your style.
DUCES X✌🏾
